Having someone speak all the right words is a pretty great thing to hear. That's a great person to have around. Or at least so we think. We figure that's exactly the person we need. Someone who will speak to me in the way I want to be spoken to. Well that only last so long. Only last till we begin to see those words are coming from a mouth that is not only speaking them to us, but to others with the same illusion.

Suddenly that illusion is broken. And that person speaking these empty words become a stranger. A stranger you shared so much with. A stranger that holds a price of you. A stranger you let hold that piece of you. Now none of it makes sense and you can't tell what part of it was a lie. Your confused about what's true and what's not. Can this person really have fooled you?

It's something we get caught up in that we don't take the time to really question. We trust so easily when we hear the right thing. Since they said it, they must mean it, right? Damn how wrong we were.

Words are pretty. Words tell stories. And paint a beautiful picture. Thing is with stories and pictures is that they are created from someones imagination. Someone is selling you on something that maybe not be real but they know how much you want to believe in them. So they say what they need to say, they show you a pretty picture and your hooked.

People should say what they mean and mean what they say, but they don't. We're easily fooled by pretty things. Whether it be a pretty person, pretty words, or pretty pictures. Pretty things prevent us from seeing what's really there underneath. Pretty things cover things up. Don't be fooled by cover ups. Or the right words. Don't glaze over those pretty things. Take a minute and seek what's really underneath it all.

  1. This is beautifully written and undoubtedly true, and goes with a quote I know "do you want to ugly truth or a beautiful lie". Words are a bias form of communication and still some how able to elude us.

    1. Thank you! I completely agree, the truth may not be the thing we want to hear the most, but it's always better than a lie that's wrapped in a bow.

  2. Well written Brittany, I much rather see the flaws underneath all the 'perfection'.

    1. I couldn't agree more Hanh. Flaws make up a person.
